Why people come to us

The NHS waiting list for ADHD in Scotland can stretch to years. You should not have to wait that long for answers.

Whether you have spent years wondering, or something recently clicked and you need clarity now, a private assessment gives you a clear diagnosis, a full clinical report, and a path forward. No waiting. No uncertainty. No being passed from one service to the next.

Most of our clients are adults who have reached a point where not knowing is costing them more than the assessment ever could. At work. In relationships. In the everyday things that everyone else seems to find straightforward.

Some are parents who can see their child struggling and need answers before another school year passes without the right support.

If that is where you are, you are in the right place.

Who you will work with

Dr Emma Field, or Elaine Venton, both Chartered Psychologists

Dr Emma Field founded ADHD Scotland to give people in Glasgow and across Scotland access to assessments that are thorough, personal, and clinically rigorous. Every ADHD assessment at ADHD Scotland is conducted by either Dr Field or Elaine Venton, both qualified psychologists. You will not be passed to a junior clinician or an automated questionnaire.

Dr Field is HCPC registered, a British Psychological Society member, and is recognised by AXA and Aviva. She is a sought-after speaker on ADHD, having presented at SEED Talks, Dyslexia Scotland events, and Sportscotland. She is also rated as one of the Three Best Rated psychologists in Glasgow. Elaine Venton is also registered with the British Psychological Society and has extensive experience as a psychologist and working with young people.

Her approach is calm, direct, and genuinely personal. That is not a marketing line. Read what clients say below.

The process

A thorough, evidence-based assessment. Nothing less.

Every ADHD assessment follows NICE guidelines and produces a diagnosis your GP, employer, and any other service involved in your care will accept without question. In fact, one of our clients had her private diagnosis accepted directly by the NHS.

A thorough, evidence-based assessment. Nothing less.

Your ADHD assessment at ADHD Scotland follows NICE guidelines and is designed to give you a diagnosis you can rely on. One that your GP, your employer, and any other service involved in your care will accept without question.

In fact, some of her clients had their private diagnosis accepted directly by the NHS.

What happens:

Before your assessment You will complete a range of questionnaires. These help Dr Field/Elaine Venton build a picture of your history before you arrive, so the assessment session itself is focused, not administrative.

  • Self-report screens
  • Developmental history
  • Optional observer questionnaire

The clinical assessment

During your assessment The session covers your full developmental and psychiatric history, a clinical and psychosocial assessment, observer reports from someone who knows you well (a partner, parent, sibling, or close friend), an assessment of your mental state, and a review of any other factors affecting your day-to-day life including work, relationships, and physical health.

The session runs for approximately three hours. Clients consistently tell us it goes faster than they expected.

  • In Glasgow or online · same standard
  • Conducted by Dr Field personally

  • Observer can attend or be contacted

Diagnosis & written report

After your assessment A full written report is sent to you, your GP, and any other relevant professional, typically within 2 to 3 weeks of your assessment. The report includes your diagnosis, a full explanation of the findings, and clear recommendations for next steps.

Should you require medication, we also refer directly to our trusted medication suppliers (psychiatrists or nurse prescribers) who confidently prescribe from our diagnosis. Our clients tend to receive appointments within 2/3 weeks of gaining a diagnosis.

  • Comprehensive, NICE-compliant

  • Accepted by NHS in onward care

  • Clear next-step recommendations

Note on corroborating evidence: You will need someone who can speak to your symptoms. They can attend part of the assessment with you, or Dr Field can contact them directly afterwards. School reports, previous diagnostic letters, or supporting documentation are also helpful but not essential.

Common questions

Anything else you’re wondering?

If your question isn’t here, just ask when you book your callback. Dr Field would rather you arrive with everything clear.
